BOYS’ SOLO SINGING COMPETITION
within the framework of the
5th International Boys’ Choir Festival “Rigas Doms”

2. Competition
conditions: |

2.1 The solo singing competition participants are
boys before the period of voice break. 2.2 To apply for the competition
the participant should complete an application form and submit
it together with a maximum 6- minute boy’s solo recording (pieces
on CD or an audio tape format different from those performed at
the competition). Final date of application 01.01.2004. (postal
stamp). 2.3 Provided that the jury accept the applicant’s participation
and decide to nominate the contestant for the 1st round of the
competition, the participant will receive an invitation for the
contest together with the music of the obligatory piece (January
2004). 2.4 The travel expenses, accommodation and meal costs shall not
be covered by the competition organizer. 2.5 The Festival provides free accommodation and 3 meals a day
through April 22-26, 2004, for three competition winners and one
assistant (guard), unless the winners are choir members of the
Festival.
2.6 The Festival fully enjoys the copyright concerning the audio
and TV recordings.
Round 1 – the participant performs 3 pieces: • an
obligatory piece forwarded to the applicant together with an invitation
in December 2003; - “Ave Maria” by Maris Lasmanis for a soprano or
- “Ave Maria” by Uldis Stabulnieks for an alto; • a song, aria or a world classics piece of a similar genre (
up to the end 19th century) of the participant’s free choice;
• a contemporary composer’s original song ( from the 60s of the
20th century up till recently) or an arrangement of a traditional
song of the participant’s free choice.
Time of performance – 9 minutes. 5-8 participants with the highest score in Round 1 will be nominated
for Round 2 of the competition.
Round 2: April 21, 2004, at 15.00 - each participant will perform
a church music piece of individual choice (4 minutes) different
form the Round 1 program.
The competition results will be evaluated by a jury
accepted by the Festival and European Union Choir Association
considering the following: emission, interpretation and repertory,
artistic expression of the performance.
1st prize- 1500 USD
2nd prize- 1000 USD
3rd prize – 500 USD
The jury has the right to decide on prize awarding procedure.
Other prizes: European Union, sponsors, Riga Municipality, Composers’ Union,
“Laima”, “Dailrade”, etc

6. Prize-winners’
concert |
|
The Festival will propose the three prize - winners to perform: on 22 April or 23 April together with Festival choirs outside
Riga ;
on 24 April in Riga, at the University Hall during the Festival
gala concert.
